Geology in my life - Week 1

We are all so busy each day, do we ever take the time to look around us and do we understand how the landscape around us was formed, or why it is there?

I currently live in Utah, near Salt Lake City. Right out of my window I see the Wasatch mountains.

In Utah there are all types of rock formations. Some rocks are Igneous because they were formed from cooling lava or magma - depending on if it was cooled underneath the surface or above. If it was cooled below the surface we call that intrusive. (I think of a robber coming in side my house - like inside the earth's house - being an intruder) If it was cooled above the surface that is called extrusive. There are also Sedimentary rocks around and also Metamorphic rocks.
